How Can Families Make Simple Renovations to Their Home?

Your home is your castle, and you and your family can make changes that will improve its overall quality. There are many simple ways to renovate a home, and some of these methods won’t require a lot of extra time and money. Here are a few simple improvements that you can make around your home.

Change Your Lighting

Thanks to modern technological advancements, there are several ways to change and update the lighting in your home. Energy-efficient recessed and halogen lighting can brighten your interior and may even cut down on your electric bill. You can also use energy-efficient dimmers. Switching from standard lightbulbs to LED or CFL bulbs is another simple option.

Install New Knobs and Handles

Instead of getting new cabinets and drawers, you may only need to update your knobs, handles and pulls to get the effect you want. These can be put on cabinets and drawers in your kitchen and bathroom and even on furniture items like dressers and desks. You can choose from bronze, nickel and brass cabinet pulls that can make each of your cabinets look newer.

Spruce up Your Entry

It’s possible to make the entryway for your home more inviting for both you and your guests. You can paint your front door a bold shade of red, yellow or turquoise to improve your home’s curb appeal. Repainting the address numbers on your house and curb can also help you make a better first impression. Other things that you can do to spruce up your home’s entry is to trim any nearby plants or bushes and install new outdoor light fixtures.

Update Your Trim and Molding

The trim and molding around your walls, archways, and doorways can be updated to give your home a more sophisticated look. You can also try repairing damage to your trim or molding as a simpler option. If you want to hire a renovation company to do the work for you, be sure to check out their reviews and references before your renovation project begins. Some of these, like Rules of Renovation reviews, are a great way to decide which company you’d like to hire.  Getting another person’s points of view can be helpful when making a decision like this.

Add More Shelving

Adding more shelves to your interior will give you additional space to keep certain items. Shelves can be arranged in a way that makes each of your rooms look more elegant. Installing your shelves along unclaimed wall spaces in your kitchen, living room and bedrooms is a great way to enhance your living quarters.

Include More Plants

Putting in some new plants can give your home an earthlier and eco-friendlier vibe. Potted plants can be placed in rooms and hallways around your home. If you don’t want to have to worry about watering and maintaining your plants, try getting artificial plants that look and feel like their real counterparts. You can also plant new greenery along the path leading up to your entryway for an even greater effect.

Choose Blinds Over Drapes

Traditional drapes on your windows can make your rooms appear smaller and less appealing. Replacing your drapes with vertical blinds will make your rooms look more open and will allow you to adjust the amount of sunlight that shines into your home easier. Plus, blinds are easier to clean than drapes.

Install New Tile

Installing new tile on certain surfaces might be easier than you think. You can either hire a contractor or do the work yourself. Tile surfacing can be added to your kitchen and bathrooms to enhance their aesthetic appeal. Choose tile colors and patterns that blend in well with your home’s interior. You can also paint over your tiles with a color of your choice.

Renovating your home doesn’t always have to involve a lot of time, work and extra strain on your budget. By finding ingenious ways to improve your home on the cheap, you and your family will be able to live in a more desirable setting.
