Six Spinal Support Cushions that Actually Work

Years ago, people had more active jobs that required a good amount of movement. Workers in factories had to move around quite a bit, and office personnel were not stationed in front of a computer. Now that more people are inside and in front of a computer, back pain has become more of an issue. This is due to bad posture caused by the configuration of the chairs, desks, and computer monitors. It has become more important that movement is incorporated into daily office life.

This is easier said than done, as the advice to stretch and do simple exercises will not work in many cubicle settings. Utilizing standing monitor systems can be distracting to other office workers as well. Fortunately, there are many different back support cushions available today that provide reliable lumbar spine support. Here are a few of the best choices.

LoveHome Memory Foam Lumbar Support Back Cushion

This cushion has a mesh cover with a zipper, dual adjustable straps, and elastic belt. The mesh offers more ventilation than microfiber. The mesh cover also makes the cushion breathable and is easy to remove for washing.

Ziraki Memory Foam Lumbar Cushion

The Ziraki Cushion was initially made for wheelchair use, but can also be used with car seats and office chairs. It features an adjustable strap as well as a carrying handle built into the side.

Fellowes Professional Series Back Support

This cushion has a triple strap system which helps it stay in place. There are two support modules for separate back support. This triangular-shaped cushion features a lower spine area with a horizontal support and a vertical support area for the mid-spine. It is not compatible with every chair and the cover cannot be removed.

The Original McKenzie Lumbar Roll by OPTP

This has a lumbar roll design that is preferred by many chiropractors. This roll configuration pushes outward on the back and encourages healthy posture. The cover is removable, made of polyester, and is moisture proof.

Bucky Baxter Lumbar Support Pillow

The buckwheat filling supports the back firmly but also conforms to each individual back. The buckwheat hulls retain their shape and will not deteriorate, and the unique filling circulates air well and keeps everything dry.

Relax-a-Bac Lumbar Back Support Cushion

This cushion is made of foam and has an insert and strap. The fabric is breathable, stays dry and can be removed. The solid board insert can be removed if you want more enhanced back support.

It can be difficult to pick the perfect back support system out of the myriad choices available. These spinal support cushions consistently garner high reviews on average, so the question then becomes more of a personal preference and need, rather than a defective product. Hopefully one of these will be the perfect choice. As always, be sure to combine back decompression exercises in combination with your back support while seated.
