Dear Friend,

Ready, Set, School! banner logoDo you remember your first day in school? Do you remember the nervous feeling you had? Do you remember your concerns about where to put your backpack, when classes started, where the lunch room was and what friends you would sit with? I certainly do! Now imagine that nervousness replaced with dread. Dread that your family was poor and couldn’t afford to buy you the supplies necessary to make your school year, your future successful.

It is a sad image, but is unfortunately reality for many of our children and families in need. These families make tough choices between rent, food and other basic necessities.  In order to afford rent and food, some families cut back on what they view as frivolous expense: new school clothes, backpacks, and school supplies. It is the children who pay the most.

Backpack indexThe good news is you can help. Yes, YOU can help provide a better future for school children by supporting the Integrated Family Community Services (IFCS) Ready, Set, School! (RSS) Program. Study after study concludes children flourish in school and their academic achievement is the ticket to a better life. Education is the primary way children exit poverty.

Your financial support of IFCS’ RSS Program will help change lives by addressing the difficult choices these families face. You will enable IFCS to provide essential tools and supplies for learning, while helping to lessen the financial burden on back-to-school needs and activities on struggling families.

We were all helped along the way at some point. Whether it was our parents or grandparents or a teacher, each of us got the necessary school supplies, food or clothing we needed to succeed. We are simply asking you to be that person for a child in need. Plus, you can make your gift in tribute of the person who helped you as a way to pay them back for their good deed.

It is important to remember how pivotal school was in your life. While everyone had a few classes or subjects they would rather forget, those experiences left an impact and created the person we are today. We need your help making sure children in need have those same experiences and leave school with dignity and respect rather than regret over what could have been if they had something to wear or paper to write on.

Thank you in advance of your support of IFCS’ RSS Program.  I look forward to your donation because each child deserves an equal chance to succeed. Please donate online today by clicking here or by mail.  Your support will make a huge difference in a child’s life!
