3 Unexpected Birthmarks Your Child May Be Born With

Having a child can be a very special time of your life. However, there are always health risks when any child is being born. It is important to make sure you are ready for anything that is thrown at you with your newborn baby. Birthmarks can be a difficult thing to deal with if they are covering your child’s face or any other recognizable areas. Here are three unexpected birthmarks your child may be born with.

Post-Wine Stains

Post-wine stains can range from pale pink to dark purple. These birthmarks can show up just about anywhere on the body. While most of these birthmarks fade, some of them get bigger as a child grows. When these birthmarks start to grow, it is important to seek the help of a plastic surgery professional, like those at Shriners Hospitals for Children Cincinnati, who will be able to remove this discoloration from your child. Over many decades, these stains can get thick and even develop lumps. It is important that you take care of post-wine stains early on before they become hard to deal with during adulthood.

Vascular Stains

Dilated capillaries near the surface of the skin are what cause vascular stains. These birthmarks are only really visible when your baby cries or there are changes in their temperature. Some of these birthmarks will fade away by adulthood but most of them will disappear with time. However if you don’t want to wait for them to fade there are still plenty of options.

Hemangioma

Blood vessel cells that form together and create growths are known medically as the birthmark Hemangioma. These birthmarks are usually very small and unnoticeable. Most of these birthmarks will disappear over time. This type of birthmark usually does not need any attention from a plastic surgeon due to its disappearing nature. However, it is always a personal choice and if it causes extreme stress and hinders positive self-confidence, visiting with medical professionals is always an option to consider.

Birthmarks on your children can be a scary thing right when you discover them. However, most of these marks will go away on their own in the right amount of time. If needed, there are cosmetic surgeons who will be able to help you remove certain types of birthmarks from your child. This may help boost self-confidence levels or remove any birthmarks that may cause physical or mental pain.
