Every parent has been there before. Dinner time is quickly approaching and you are scrambling to come up with a meal that is easy to make and that the kids will not turn up their noses at. The challenge of cooking for a family is to find meals that appeal to everyone’s personal preferences, satisfy your desire to give your loved one’s healthy food and to get it done without having to spend hours in the kitchen. Here are four quick and easy recipes that even your kids will love.

Taco Baked Pasta

Combine your kids’ love of both tacos and pasta with this easy one-pot meal. Casserole meals are great choices when you do not want to dirty up a bunch of dishes or have to juggle the timing of your cooking so that all of the elements of the meal get done at the same time. A taco baked pasta dish contains whole-grain penne, ground beef, onions, garlic, cheese, and taco seasoning. Serve this dish with some baked tortilla chips and salsa along with slices of heart-healthy avocado. With the baking and the prep work, this meal takes 45 minutes from start to finish. As a bonus, it tastes delicious the next day when heated up as leftovers.

French Bread Pizza

Encourage your kids to help in the kitchen by planning a french bread pizza night. Kids are more likely to eat their dinner if they had a hand in helping to prepare it. Using french bread as the base is one of the easiest ways to let everyone in the family create their own unique pizza that is suited exactly to their tastes. Simply slice the french bread to the size that you want each pizza. Top the bread with either marinara sauce, pasta sauce, or pesto sauce. You could even use alfredo sauce if you are want to make a white pizza. The possibilities are unlimited. Once you have the bread and the sauce ready to go, you can begin assembling the toppings. Good ideas include classic pepperoni and sausage, vegetables, shrimp, Canadian bacon, pineapple, jalapenos, fresh basil, and more. Be sure to top with plenty of mozzarella cheese before you pop the pizzas into an oven that has been preheated to 375 degrees. Depending on the size and thickness of your bread, these pizzas will only take about 10 minutes to bake.

Pan-Fried Fish

Your kids will not even mind that they are eating something as healthy as fish when they try this flavorful recipe. Basa is a good choice for children because it is not as high in mercury as some other types of fish. Make sure that the basa fillets are dry before you put them in the skillet so that they do not stick to the pan. Coat the fish with a mixture of curry powder, turmeric, black pepper, and salt. Finish with a squeeze of lemon juice and serve with brown rice and a fresh garden salad. This pan-fried basa recipe is done in less than 30 minutes, making it an excellent meal choice for those busy weeknights when you are short on time but still want to serve up a nutritious meal.

Fried Rice

Whipping up a skillet of fried rice is a great way to use up leftover meat and veggies. With so many flavor combinations, you can customize this meal to fit what you have on hand. Good choices to include with your rice include chicken, shrimp, ham, peas, and carrots. Simply mix the rice with the meat and veggies of your choice along with a few scrambled eggs and some soy sauce. Top with a little sesame oil for an extra kick. You can choose to use either white or brown rice, depending on the preferences of your family.

You do not have to make dinner time a struggle. Once you build up a regular rotation of recipes that you know your kids will devour, you can customize a meal plan for each week. All four of these recipes deserve a spot in your regular rotation if your goal is to save time making dinner while still pleasing the bellies of your picky kids.
