5 Tips For Keeping Your Kids Happy And Healthy This Summer

Now that summer is approaching, you’re likely trying to find enjoyable activities for your kids while they have time off from school. Although planning activities is fun it is also important to make sure that you know how to keep your kids happy and healthy this summer season. Here are just a few suggestions that can help ensure that this summer will be a healthy and happy one for your children to remember.

Be Active

It’s important that your children get plenty of exercise during summer vacation. They may want to sit on the couch and play video games or watch TV all day, but being too sedentary can affect your child’s ability to learn in the coming school year. Being active also gives your child a chance to interact with other children and discover new physical abilities. There may be free sports programs at your local community center, so summer time may be ideal for signing your child up for baseball, swimming or biking.

Get Checkups

Summer is also a good time to take your children to the doctor for a routine checkup since you won’t have to work around your son or daughter’s school schedule. You can take your kids to places like Entira Family Clinics during the summer to check for any health issues before the upcoming school year. A trip to the doctor may also be necessary to treat minor injuries that can occur while your children are playing outdoors this summer.

Provide Healthy Snacks

Your child will have more energy and better overall health if you provide nutritious snacks during the summer. This season is also a great time to get your kids in the kitchen with you and come up with snacks that are full of the vitamins and minerals kids need to feel their best. Smoothies made from summer fruits like mangoes and peaches make a great snack, or you can create your own trail mix with your child’s favorite nuts and dried fruits.

Stay Hydrated

The summer heat can easily dehydrate your children, especially if they are outside for long periods of time. Make sure that your kids are drinking lots of water, and add slices of fresh fruit, agave syrup or lime juice to the water to make the beverage tastier if your kids don’t care for water.

Take a Stay-cation

Make memories with your children by taking them to see some sites in your city. Check out a local museum you’ve been wanting to visit, get tickets to a sports game or take your kids to a pottery or cooking class. These are wonderful ways for you to spend time with your kids and see more of what your city has to offer.

These are just some of the fun things you can do with your kids this summer. It may also help to have a family meeting to find out what activities your children are looking forward to, so you can plan the summer accordingly.
