Your family deserves the best, and that includes healthy teeth. However, to achieve it, they will need more than tooth brushing and flossing after every meal. They will have to consider the food consumed as well. Not all foods are the same though. Some of them are beneficial, while others can be devastating. If you are not careful, you might find yourself calling an emergency dentist. Here are four dietary changes that can have a tremendous influence on your mouth’s health.

Let Go of Sugar

It is a well-known fact that a high-sugar diet increases the chances of experiencing cavities. Bacteria, like other living organisms, require food to live. For them, simple carbohydrates such as sugars provide the perfect food source. When bacteria ferment the simple sugars found in your mouth, they produce acids that promote the decay of the tooth enamel. To prevent that from happening, reduce the consumption of sugary foods and drinks. Moreover, chewing cheese helps neutralize the plaque acid that leads to demineralization and boost the saliva production, which removes bacteria found in the mouth.

Partake in Raisins

You may be surprised to know that raisins can also keep your teeth healthy. While they are sweet and delicious, they are free from sucrose, which is the sugar type bacteria feeds on to create plaque. Additionally, they are rich in phytochemicals that can fight off cavities and may inhibit the growth of gum disease-related bacteria.

Rinse with Black Tea

Different tea varieties are known to possess multiple health benefits. Black tea, for example, is popular due to its high concentration of polyphenols. These compounds can halt the growth of cavity-causing bacteria. Furthermore, they are able to keep in check the chemicals created by bacteria that produce bad breath. The tea is most effective when used as a mouthwash around ten times every day.
