Volunteers Power Feed the Need Food Drives

In 2014, more than 200 individuals representing community groups, including local service clubs, churches and others, dedicated nearly 600 hours collecting non-perishable food, paper products, cleaning supplies and personal hygiene donations in front of local King Soopers stores. These individuals, and the shoppers that made contributions, assisted to maintain well-stocked shelves in the IFCS Food Bank of Choice. The efforts of the volunteers and contributors are honorable and make a significant contribution to the IFCS mission.

However, they are only part of the formula that makes Feed the Need Food Drives successful. The other part is the leadership of the local King Sooper stores. The Kroger Company web site states: “King Soopers has a long history of bringing help and hope to the communities we serve. Since our earliest days, King Soopers and the Kroger Family of Associates have taken care of our neighbors and each other. Today we contribute more than $220 million annually in funds, food and products to support local communities.”

Incredibly, the $220 million in donations likely do not include the Feed the Need Food Drives since it is not a direct donation from the companyHowever, without the cooperation of local King Soopers, these food drives would not be as successful. IFCS is grateful for the unique, 3-way partnership that is comprised of committed community volunteer groups, generous western Arapahoe County citizens and supportive local King Soopers management.

If you belong to a group, large or small, please consider subsidizing the IFCS Food Bank of Choice in this exceptionally easy way. Go to Food Drives to learn more or contact Jean Ray, Volunteer Coordinator, at or 303-789-0501, X103.
